101 - Editing with Avid Media Composer ($1150)
Length: 3 Days Price: $1150/student
This three-day course introduces the concepts of nonlinear editing and includes
all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system for Macintosh and Windows.
Session time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice, with
ample time for experimentation with sample material. Students will use Avid
Media Composer to digitize and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync
material, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles, and output work. The
final product will be a finished program. This course is also appropriate
for Avid Symphony users.
Prerequisites: Designed for the novice Avid Media Composer
editor, no familiarity with the system is necessary. Completion of a Macintosh
or Windows introductory course or equivalent is required, and a background
in editing, production, or post-production is strongly suggested.

110 - Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects ($800)
Length: 2 Days Price: $800/student
This two-day course introduces basic effects and is a prerequisite for the
305 Advanced Avid Media Composer Effects course. Topics include: creating
multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, using
AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarps, using the 3D
Effects option,and nesting layers. Class time is divided between demonstration
and hands-on-practice. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony
users.
Prerequisites: Students should have completed the 101 Editing
with Avid Media Composer course.

201 - Advanced Techniques for Avid Media Composer ($800)
Length: 2 Days Price: $800/student
This two-day course is designed for experienced Avid Media Composer (or
Symphony) editors who want to become more productive by mastering the system
’s sophisticated editing features and shortcuts. Students also learn advanced
techniques to help streamline system, media, and project management. Sessions
include instructor-led demonstration and hands-on practice. Topics include:
editing features (such as Sync Point Editing and Replace Edit), advanced
trimming techniques, editing and viewing options, multicamera editing, sync
audio methods, keyboard shortcuts, user settings, and capturing and recapturing
tips. Project, media, and system management topics include: improving Avid
Media Composer performance and moving and deleting media.
Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Editing with Avid
Media Composer course or the equivalent of six months' experience editing
on the system is required. A background as editor, assistant editor, director,
or producer is necessary.

210 - Creating Graphics
and Mattes for Avid Editing Systems with Adobe ($800)
Length: 2 Days Price: $800/student
Designed for the advanced Avid Media Composer or Avid Xpress Pro editor,
this two-day course demonstrates how to prepare still and moving graphics
for import into Avid Media Composer. Students will also learn how to use
Intraframe Editing to create paint effects and animated mattes. Class time
is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. Topics include:
preparing and importing graphics, creating and using alpha channels, layers,
and matte keys, and using Adobe Photoshop to treat logos and web graphics
for use in a video program. Third party packages used in the class include
Adobe Photoshop 7.0. This course is also relevant for Avid Symphony users.
Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Editing with Avid
Media Composer course and the 110 Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects
course are required.

239 - Color Correction

This two day course, designed for the intermediate user, explains how to
color correct a sequence on Avid Media Composer and Avid Xpress Pro. The
editor will learn how to color correct each shot in a sequence, use Avid
’s internal video scopes, make sure the color and luminance are within safe
broadcast limits, and create a treatment for an entire sequence. Class time
is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice.
Prerequisites: Completion of the 101 Editing with Avid
Media Composer or the equivalent of six months experience editing on the Avid system is
required.

effects on Avid Media Composer for maximum quality and optimal render time.
Hands-on exercises help students create and combine effects to achieve real-world
results. Topics include: effect shortcuts and tips, advanced keyframing,
nesting and keying, render time reduction, using Avid Media Composer#8217s
Paint and AniMatte effects, and effect media management. This course is
also relevant for Avid Symphony users.
Prerequisites: Students should have completed both 101
Editing with Avid Media Composer and the 110 Introduction to Avid Media
Composer Effects courses. They should also have several months'experience
on the Avid Media Composer system.
